A TV tuner is an external box with which you make your television receptive to digital television in no time.
Most televisions have a built-in DVB-T tuner. This means that the television receives a signal from the ether and transforms it into image and sound. This is a wireless reception. This way of receiving a signal is free but it only gives you access to a limited number of stations. We also refer to this as analog television.
However, the digital television offers more choice and possibilities. Often, the new models have a DVB-C tuner for receiving this. Nowadays, you have the possiblity of inserting a simple smartcard from your provider into the television, so you do not need a separate box.
It might be the case that your television does not support the smartcard from the provider of your choice. Or that your television does not have a built-in CI+ option. If this is the case, it is easy to resolve this using an external TV tuner. Via a cable, you connect this box to every television of your choice.
